The National Weather Service has issued winter weather advisories along the California-Nevada line, warning residents of an incoming early winter storm. This storm is expected to bring heavy snowfall to the upper elevations of the Sierra, with as much as a foot (30 centimeters) of snow accumulation. Additionally, gusty winds reaching up to 100 mph (160 kph) are predicted over ridgetops. The advisories are in effect from 4 p.m. Saturday through 4 a.m. Sunday and cover a vast area from the Lake Tahoe region near Reno, extending south of Yosemite National Park, including Mammoth Lakes, California.

According to the National Weather Service, snowfall rates could reach an impressive 1 to 2 inches per hour (2.5 to 5 centimeters) in certain areas. Above elevations of 6,500 feet (1,980 meters), forecasters expect snow accumulation ranging from three to eight inches (7 to 20 centimeters), with localized areas above 8,000 feet (2,440 meters) potentially experiencing up to 14 inches (35 centimeters) of snow.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution due to slippery road conditions and limited visibility caused by heavy snowfall. The weather service in Reno also warns that strong winds associated with this storm system may result in tree damage and blowing snow, creating hazardous boating conditions on Lake Tahoe, where waves may reach heights of 2 to 4 feet (60 to 122 centimeters). As this winter storm approaches, residents and visitors in the affected regions should stay updated on the latest weather information and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
