Dutch to Deliver 18 F-16 Jets to Ukraine Amid Ongoing Russian Aggression
Netherlands to deliver 18 F-16 jets to Ukraine in response to Russian aggression. President Zelensky expresses gratitude for the support as Dutch Prime Minister emphasizes commitment to Ukraine.
The Netherlands announced on Friday that they are preparing the delivery of 18 American-made F-16 combat jets to Ukraine in light of the ongoing Russian aggression. This decision was made in coordination with Denmark and the United States, who had previously agreed to provide up to 61 jets once Ukrainian pilots had completed training. The Dutch defense minister informed President Volodymyr Zelensky of this decision, but a specific delivery date has not been provided.
In addition to obtaining an export permit, there are several other criteria, such as personnel and infrastructure requirements, that must be met before the delivery can take place. Outgoing Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte emphasized their commitment to supporting Ukraine in responding to the ongoing Russian aggression. President Zelensky expressed his gratitude for the support and discussed frontline developments and Ukraine's current military needs with Rutte. The Netherlands previously sent five F-16s to Romania to train Ukrainian pilots and these additional jets will further bolster Ukraine's defense capabilities during a challenging period.
