China has stepped in to mediate the tensions between Pakistan and Iran after the two nations conducted airstrikes against each other last week. The Chinese Foreign Ministry stated that it is in close communication with both countries to help bridge their differences. The tension escalated after Pakistan conducted precision military strikes in Iran's Siestan-Balochistan province, resulting in the death of 9 individuals. This attack was viewed as retaliation for Iranian missile and drone attacks on two bases of the Sunni Baloch militant group Jaish al-Adl in Pakistan's Balochistan province.

China's involvement in the conflict is significant as it has strong ties with both Pakistan and Iran. While Pakistan is an all-weather ally, Iran has grown closer to Beijing in recent years, enabling China to expand its influence in the West Asia region and import a considerable amount of oil from Iran. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin emphasized that China is committed to upholding regional and international peace and stability and supports Iran and Pakistan in resolving their differences through dialogue and consultation.

China offered to play a constructive role in easing tension between Islamabad and Tehran and expressed its willingness to continue playing a positive and constructive role in improving the relations between the two countries based on their needs. The Foreign Ministry's statement came amidst the reported visit of Foreign Minister Sun Weidong to Pakistan on a mediation mission. Sun, a former Ambassador to Pakistan and India, is currently in Pakistan to further mediate the situation. In summary, China's involvement in mediating the conflict between Pakistan and Iran demonstrates its commitment to maintaining peace in the region and fostering positive relationships with its neighboring countries.
