As China grapples with extreme weather conditions, one person has been reported dead and two are missing after torrential rains caused flash floods in the northern part of the country.

The recent heatwave, hail, and heavy downpours have been wreaking havoc across the country, with infrastructure, crops, and even livestock being severely damaged. The tragedy occurred in the Inner Mongolia region on Sunday, and was reported by state broadcaster CCTV.

Rescue workers from various parts of southern China, including the southwestern province of Guizhou, have been working tirelessly to move people and livestock to safety from floods and landslides. The CGTN state media outlet reported that intensive rain had lashed Yunnan province over the weekend, resulting in cars being washed away in the streets that resembled rivers.

In Sichuan province, mudslides last week resulted in several fatalities. Meanwhile, northern China is still in the midst of an unusually hot weather spell that arrived earlier than expected, and over a vast area. The National Climate Center has predicted that the heatwave will continue for another 10 days.

The prolonged hot spell has been generating discontent and frustration among the country's 1.4 billion population, with some taking to social media to voice their grievances. Weather forecasters have also warned of strong convective weather, which could bring thunderstorms, as witnessed by the hailstorm on Saturday in Heilongjiang province where windows were shattered.
