Congress is making some bad calls

Update: 2017-08-02 09:54 GMT

The plea in the Supreme Court of India by Indian National Congress shows the poor state of affairs inside the political party. If they can't even select a candidate for the Rajya Sabha on consensus then what else can they do?

The None of the above option would only be used if the person voting decides not to vote for the candidate that has been selected by the party. In this case it is the seat from Gujarat where it is Ahmad Patel that has been fielded for the congress. The NOTA option that is now being given, the Congress is saying that it was inserted post notification. So it shouldn't be valid.

Bengaluru not a safe haven, hit by Income Income Tax sleuths

Senior Congress leader and party's Gujarat Rajya Sabha candidate Ahmed Patel on Wednesday accused the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) of witch-hunt to win a single seat.

Ahmed Patel's remark came after the Income Tax department conducted raids at Karnataka's Minister for Energy DK Shivakumar's residence and at Eagleton Golf resort where 44 Congress Gujarat MLAs are staying.

"BJP is on an unprecedented witch-hunt just to win one Rajya Sabha seat. After using state machinery and every other agency, these I-T raids show their utter desperation and frustration," said Patel.

Congress veteran Ahmed Patel, the high-profile political secretary to party president Sonia Gandhi, is seeking another Rajya Sabha term from Gujarat.

On Tuesday, Patel also questioned the Election Commission's decision to introduce NOTA in the Gujarat Rajya Sabha elections, in which he is one of the candidates, alleging that it was done 'post notification'.

The BJP has fielded the party president Amit Shah and Union minister Smriti Irani on two Rajya Sabha seats and the former Congress leader Balwantsinh Rajput on the third seat against Patel from Gujarat.

In the 182-member Assembly, the strength of the Congress has gone down to 51 from 57 following defection of six of its MLAs.

The Congress needs to put its house in order

If the Congress party needs to get out of this conundrum then it needs to put some real changes in place. They have to fire its corrupt politicians even if it means losing a few seats and make sure that they clean up the party. These politicians will have no long term sway anyway. So time to cut the cord and fix the real issue, the corrupt legislators. So the walking out of these legislators may be the best thing that will happen to Congress. It may be a few seats down, but good riddance to bad rubbish.
