In J&K tourists get what they have been waiting for: Fresh Snowfall

World famous hill station of Jammu & Kashmir witnessed it's fresh snowfall of the season.

The MET officials said that a feeble western disturbance could trigger light to moderate rains at many places in the plains and snowfall on the higher reaches of Jammu region, and at a few places in Kashmir, in the next 24 hours.

"After that the weather will start improving, but this cold wave will linger on for few more days", MET officials said.

Receiving of fresh snowfall at Trikuta Hills surrounding Mata Vaishno Devi Pilgrimage, is good news for the Tourism sector of Jammu & Kashmir. It is also great news for the toursits who have been waiting since the beginning of winters for this snowfall.
Trikuta Hills of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi and tourist spots of Jammu region like Patnitop, Nathatop and Sanasar received fresh snowfall.
The officials said that 3 to 4 inches of snow was recorded from Sanji Chat upto cave Shrine and Patnitop and Nathatop. Around 20,000 to 25,000 pilgrims pay visit to the Shrine daily to pay obeisance.
Meanwhile, chopper service from Katra base camp to Bhawan remained suspended due to dense fog in the hills.
However, Patnitop and Nathatop tourist destinations also witnessed fresh snowfall on Tuesday. The plains of Udhampur, Jammu, Poonch, Rajouri Samba and Kathua also recorded rainfall, thus dipping the temperature.
With this snow the day temperatures are likely to hover around 12 degrees Celsius in Kashmir region while nights would remain several notches below the freezing point, until Thursday.
The night's lowest temperature in Srinagar was minus 3.7 Celsius while in Pahalgam it was minus 5 and minus 5.2 degrees Celsius in Gulmarg.
At minus 19.2 degrees, Kargil was the coldest town in the state followed by Leh at minus 14.
