Real Madrid's UEFA super cup final without star forward Cristiano Ronaldo and former manager Zinedine Zidane didn't go well for them. The Real Madrid lost to Atletico Madrid 4-2 after going into extra time.

Atletico Madrid joined Liverpool in the fourth spot in the UEFA super cup honours board. They maintained their perfect record and beat city rivals 4-2 in Tallinn and won the title for the third time.

Atletico striker Diego Costa scored the fastest goal in the tournament only 50 seconds after the match starting. Real Madrid came back with fire and took a 2-1 lead in the match. Costa levelled the match with another brilliant goal.

Real Madrid player Gareth Bale played the 'main man's' in Ronaldo's absence and showcased skill and speed but couldn't win the game on his own. The play was tied at 2-2 at the end of 90 minutes and went into extra time. Atletico owned Real in extra time. Defensive midfielder Saul Niguez scored a stunning goal in the 98th minute and then Koke sealed the deal for Atletico by scoring at 104th minute. Atletico lifted the UEFA super cup and became the first team to win in their first three UEFA super cup appearances.

Here's how fans reacted on their twitter handles:

Diego Simeone, Atletico Madrid coach after the match said "Let me reiterate what I said before: out of the five finals against Real Madrid - if I recall correctly - two were domestic, three continental. Of those five, we won three and we clearly didn't beat them in the Champions League finals. We have our own style; that doesn't change because of a result or the number of goals scored. Our style is built on structure, design and strategy. The 4-2 scoreline won't change our style."

"We've lost a very important and influential player, but that doesn't mean we're going to stop winning, he said. Other big players at Real Madrid have come and gone. The club rises above all of its players, including symbolic ones like him. Hopefully things go well for him and for us too" Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos said after the match.

Real Madrid after Ronaldo

Real Madrid certainly missed Ronaldo, who scored 450 goals in 438 matches while playing for the spanish club. This was Real Madrid's first game without Ronaldo. The Portuguese born footballer made a shocking move to Juventus fc this summer in € 100m deal and left a legacy behind. Real Madrid is certainly having a hard time replacing the Portuguese sensation. Former manager Zinedine Zidane also left the club recently. Ronaldo captained the club and was their most successful player.
