A horrifying incident occurred in the northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, as a soldier opened fire on mourners who had buried his son without his presence, resulting in the tragic death of 13 individuals.

The attack took place in the village of Nyakova on the banks of Lake Albert in Ituri province. According to Lt. Jules Ngongo, a spokesperson for the army in Ituri province, the soldier arrived home from his post to find family members and community members gathered to mourn his son, who had passed away from natural causes.

Angered by the fact that his son was buried without his approval and absence, the soldier unleashed this violent attack, killing his wife, in-laws, and two of his own children. Among the victims were eight other children who lost their lives due to this senseless act of violence.
