PTI Fights Back: Overcomes Challenges Ahead of General Elections
x

Ahead of the general elections on February 8, Pakistan's ruling party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has faced a series of challenges in the lead-up to the polls. The party has reported that its websites have been blocked in the country, leading to confusion among voters as they prepare to cast their ballots. As a result, PTI has had to field its leaders as independent candidates with different electoral symbols, after being deprived of its 'bat' symbol for the upcoming elections.

To address the issue of blocked websites, the PTI has launched an online portal on its website and a backup site, as well as introducing a feature where voters can message Imran Khan's official Facebook account to get information about PTI-backed candidates. The party has also called for a response from federal authorities, questioning why its websites have been blocked and highlighting the impact on voter access to key information. Furthermore, PTI has experienced multiple internet outages coinciding with the party's online events, prompting concerns about possible disruptions to the election process.

Pakistan's caretaker government has attributed these disruptions to technical issues and system installations, but the party has urged the Supreme Court to take notice of the internet suspension. In addition to these challenges, PTI leader Imran Khan has accused the Punjab government of imposing Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) to hinder the upcoming power show by PTI's candidates.

Khan has emphasized that PTI will not be deterred by coercive measures and has expressed confidence in the party's overwhelming vote bank within the armed forces. Despite facing obstacles and allegations of pre-poll rigging, PTI remains determined to participate in the upcoming elections and has vowed to confront any attempts to suppress its voice. As the election day approaches, PTI is gearing up for a strong showing and is prepared to mobilize public support in the face of adversity.
